Getting Started

This guide walks you through setting up NightPanel from scratch.

Step 1: Create an Account

  1. Go to the Sign Up page
  2. Enter your name, email, and password (8+ characters)
  3. Click Sign Up

You'll be redirected to your dashboard. A workspace is created automatically — this is where all your monitors live.

Step 2: Install the Chrome Extension

  1. Download the extension files
  2. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome
  3. Enable Developer mode (toggle in the top right)
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the extension folder

You'll see a gray circle icon in your browser toolbar — this means the extension is installed but not connected yet.

Step 3: Log In to the Extension

  1. Click the gray icon in the toolbar
  2. Click Settings (the gear icon)
  3. Enter the same email and password you used to sign up
  4. Click Login

The icon should change from gray to green (assuming you have no monitors yet — no monitors = all good).

Step 4: Create Your First Monitor

  1. In the extension settings page, click Add Monitor
  2. Choose the monitor type (e.g., HTTP)
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Name: a friendly name like "My Website"
    • URL: the address to check, e.g., https://mysite.com
    • Interval: how often to check (in seconds, e.g., 300 = every 5 minutes)
  4. Click Save

The system will immediately run the first check. Within a few seconds, you'll see the result in the extension popup.
